Klimaatvrijplaats day 1
š I’m so grateful I could join Klimaatvrijplaats yesterday, the first day of a 4-day event organized for people like me - who care deeply about the planet - to connect, recharge, and simply say thank you for all the effort we put in.
š For many of us, the environmental crises and consequences feel overwhelming. Goals aren’t met, nature and people are suffering. In our work, it is easy to feel alone, burnt out, or hopeless. At Klimaatvrijplaats, I found a safe space to share these feelings, supported by both professionals and others who understand. Together, we explored ways to stay hopeful and connected, even in the face of such big challenges.š± The four sessions are inspired by eco-philosopher Joanna Macy, whose work reminds us of our deep connection to all life. And the location, De Groene Afslag, was incredible: full of reused objects, like a Loch Ness Monster made from 800 old jeans (see picture). It felt like an expression of deep respect for our planet and earthly resources.
š I left feeling lighter, knowing that we are in this together, and that hope is something we can nurture together.
A special thank you for the Humanistisch Verbond (The Dutch Humanist Association) who has organized this and De Groene Afslag for providing this amazing space. Also for Manu Busschots š and Floris Alberse who did an excellent job leading the event. And my respect to Billie Achilleos, in collaboration with MUD Jeans and WaterBear, who created this beautiful Loch Ness piece of art!
