More rotten trees than we realize?

Recently, a storm blew over The Netherlands,

knocking over many trees.

I was shocked to see that trees that looked fine,

turned out to have rotting roots,

because I assume this means that many more trees are unhealthy.

We just don't realize.

I hope my assumption is wrong.
