When change comes from within, building a healthier planet becomes enjoyable

I’m excited to share some news!

🌐 One of the ways I give back to society is by supporting the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe with my knowledge in #cybersecurity, #sustainability, and #psychology. With this unique mix, I’m able to contribute to the Task Force on Digitalization in Energy, where we help policymakers make well-informed decisions for their countries.

✍️ Recently, I had the honor of serving as lead author on a UN paper that highlights a crucial but often overlooked factor in driving sustainable action: intrinsic motivation – the motivation that comes from within.

While we see incredible progress in digital technologies designed to optimize energy systems, the reality is that systemic change is still moving slowly. Many of the barriers are not technical, but behavioral and psychological. Among them, the role of intrinsic motivation has received far too little policy attention.

šŸ“– Our paper explores how #intrinsicMotivation can make sustainable action not only effective, but also enjoyable. We showcase real-world cases and offer policy recommendations on how to integrate these insights into long-term planning for #energyEfficiency and sustainability.

šŸ’š Because when taking action feels meaningful and self-driven, change doesn’t feel like a burden – it becomes something we want to do.

šŸ’”I’d be happy to share the paper with you: here is the link to the paper: https://unece.org/sites/default/files/2025-08/GEEE-12.2025.INF_.5%20-%20Beyond.incentives-Energy.behaviours%20%5BFINAL%5D.pdf

šŸ™ Finally, I would like to thank my excellent coauthors Dr Alina Mia Udall and Sudha Setty (She/Her), and the support from Stefan M. Buettner and Igor Litvinyuk!
