The importance of whale-falls

Yesterday, I watched this fascinating YouTube video about whale-falls. A whale-fall is the event of a dead whale sinking to the bottom of the ocean after having exploded. Sounds a bit creepy, but I found it fascinating because it shows the different stages of life (yes life!) that follow this event. Such an event can even bring forth new species!
